We are very excited to announce the launch of our second mead: The One with Vanilla and Oak. This mead is a different class and style than Foundation, which is a standard strength traditional mead. The One with Vanilla and Oak is in a class of mead called a hydromel, a lighter mead ranging from 3.5%-8% alcohol by volume.
Hydromels can be made in a traditional style with only honey as the flavoring or flavored with fruits or spices. A signature of hydromels is the light, easy-drinking quality associated with the lower alcohol. You might see some meaderies list this style as a "session mead” or "draft mead."
The One with Vanilla and Oak is made with organic vanilla beans, French oak, and raw San Diego alfalfa honey. You sense initial oak aromas on the nose, a crisp earthy honey flavor on the palate, and a smooth vanilla finish. It’s delicious, easy to drink, and easy pairs well with a number of foods from Pad Thai to peanut butter Girl Scout cookies. The One with Vanilla and Oak is ONLY available on tap across San Diego county as well as a debut location for us in Long Beach!
The following establishments will have it on tap for launch day, but keep checking back because we will continue to update this list as other locations are added! If your favorite establishment doesn’t carry it yet, let them know and Demand Meadiocrity.
